The Fair Finance Southern Africa hosted its 6th Fair Finance school in Cape Town, focusing on the youth. It hosted 45 passionate young activists and climate change enthusiasts, who brought not just their determination for change but an electric energy for progressive solutions.

The room was buzzing with excitement, and it was so inspiring to see how much the conversation around climate change and finance has evolved. This wasn’t just a topic for activists anymore; it was a movement embraced by everyday people who care deeply about our planet and demand real, lasting solutions from public finance!

We focused on applying what we had learned on Day 1 of the two-day event and continued our exploration of International Financial Institutions and their significance. Presentations from speakers, Armando Ayala, Alia Kajee, and Environmental Lawyer Zahra Omar highlighted the importance of policies, their relevance, and functionality. They also discussed how the Policy Assessment was developed.

The highlight of the day was the group work, where everyone showcased their ideas and strategies for implementing practical change. Participants took what they learned and turned it into clear ideas, planned campaign work, and practical tactics that used finance knowledge to solve problems. The poster designs were particularly impressive and effectively conveyed the visual understanding of everything we learned.

South Africa’s Solar Boom, But Who Really Benefits? In this video, we look at what energy democracy is and why we need it. 85% of South Africa’s electricity still comes from coal, making us one of the world’s biggest polluters. The shift to solar is urgent, but if only the rich can afford it, we’re just swapping one inequality for another.

We need energy democracy for:

✅ Fair access for workers, communities & small businesses

✅ Shared benefits, not corporate profits

✅ A just transition that leaves no one behind

In this episode, we learn that climate finance is a matter of justice, and that the money intended to combat climate change isn’t reaching the communities drowning in floods, scorched by drought, and battered by storms. Climate finance should be about justice, not just numbers on a spreadsheet. The #FairFinanceSchool breaks it down in plain terms what this all means, no jargon, just people-powered solutions.

Mozambique’s gas boom isn’t "development", it’s displacement, violence, and climate destruction. In Cabo Delgado:

⚠️ Communities face human rights abuses

⚠️ The environmental harm to marine life has not been properly assessed. This isn’t progress. It’s profit over people.
